Frequent Questions

What is the warranty on Diamon-fusion’s® coatings?

Warranty is for a lifetime; as long as basic manufacturer maintenance recommendations are followed.

Diamon-Fusion® treated surfaces are guaranteed to remain more water repellent than untreated glass for the lifetime as long as basic manufacturer maintenance recommendations are followed; and no harsh or abrasive cleaners are used. Diamon-fusion’s® patented nano-coating chemically bonds to the glass and creates a patented, protective nano-film which when properly applied by an authorised reseller, is guaranteed not to discolour, chip, crack, haze or peel for the lifetime of the glass sheet/windshield.

Please see the complete Diamon-Fusion Warranty for important conditions and restrictions.

Where are Diamon-fusion’s® products manufactured?

Most of our products are manufactured at our production facility in California, United States.

Are Diamon-fusion’s® protective coatings colourless?

All our protective coatings are optically clear.

Our protective coatings are clear and are guaranteed NOT to discolour, chip, crack, haze, or peel off. The chemical bond created is permanent and integral to the substrate at nanoscale levels.

What does "contact angle" mean?

The contact angle, also called "wetting angle" is a measurement used to determine how well a surface repels a liquid.

To measure hydrophobicity, a small drop of water is used. The measurement is determined by the angle formed between the material's surface and a line drawn at the edge of the water drop where it meets the glass.

See the graphic below of water on an untreated surface.

Insert graphic

Diamon-fusion’s® protective coatings produce contact angles ranging from 90-degrees to 110-degrees, depending on the coating purchased. (See What is the difference between all of Diamon-fusion’s® protective coating products?)

Is Diamon-fusion® nanotechnology environmentally friendly?

Rooted in our eco-friendly philosophy, we have implemented the highest standards in the handling of our products to ensure its use is safe for the environment.

In fact, Diamon-fusion® Nanotechnology provides a great benefit to the environment. All coatings are applied using environmentally safe scientific processes. The chemicals used in our patented processes have been in use for decades in different applications in a variety of industries worldwide; and are not found to contravene the U.S. Clean Air or Clean Water Acts. Diamon-fusion® has a blanket approval for our “zero emission” application process from the South Coast Air Quality Management District in Southern California, one of the most stringent air quality management agencies in the world. There are also no Permissible Exposure Limits set by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Once applied, Diamon-fusion® Nanotechnology eliminates the need for harsh chemical cleaners; and reduces the frequency of cleaning intervals; reducing the amount of water wasted. Both of these have a profound impact on the environment, reducing the demand on our over-burdened fresh water supplies and saving our rivers, lakes and oceans from pollution.

How much does it cost to have a glass surface or a kitchen granite counter top treated with Diamon-fusion®?

Prices are determined by Diamon-fusion® Resellers according to their own business strategies and market segments. We are a technology developer and supplier and legally cannot set retail prices. Although prices do vary substantially depending on geographical areas and markets, Diamon-Fusion® has proven to provide the best combination of price and performance of any easy-to-clean coating for silica-based surfaces available in the market today.

Once treated with the EasyClean Diamon-fusion® process, will I still need to clean my glass, tile, porcelain, or granite?

Yes, you will still need to do some cleaning, but intervals for cleaning is reduced by 90%.

The Diamon-Fusion coating REDUCES cleaning time but it does not eliminate it entirely. Diamon-Fusion is similar to the development of Teflon®* for cooking pans. While you can cook food in uncoated pans, it is so much easier to clean up if you cook with Teflon coated pans. Just as your Teflon-coated pan needs an easy cleaning, so too will your Diamon-fusion® protected surface need an occasional quick clean.(*Teflon is a registered trademark of E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company.)

How does the EasyClean Diamon-fusion® process work?

It uses a two-stage nanotechnology process.

DIAMON-FUSION’s® flagship protective coating is patented and branded under the Diamon-Fusion trademark. It uses a two-stage nanotechnology process. The chemical reaction created in the first stage causes a "cross-linked" and "branched" ultra-thin silicone film which grows from below the surface. The second stage 'caps' the entire chain of atoms. This unique 'capping' substantially increases the hydrophobicity and durability, leaving, chemically speaking, no points of attachment for contaminants; thereby creating a truly repellent charge.

Through simple neutralization, all chemicals become inert within a few seconds. No curing time is needed since the chemical reaction itself occurs in less than 2 seconds.

The resulting coating is an ultra-thin protective layer of optically clear material which makes the surface significantly easier to clean and resistant to weathering. The method is done at nano-scale levels, which is a length scale ranging from approximately 1 to 100 nanometres (1 nanometre is 1 billionth of a meter). For comparison, the thickness of a human hair ranges from 40,000 to 100,000 nanometres.

The bond created in the patented process is a covalent bond. A covalent bond means that the coating shares electrons with molecules in the glass itself, thus becoming part of the glass. Covalent bonds are approximately 10 times stronger than hydrogen-bridge bonds, which are commonly used in most other water repellent coatings.

Why is Diamon-fusion® not applicable on plastics or metals? Do you have any other products which are compatible to plastics or metals?

Yes – we have products to protect stainless Steel, Plastic, and wood laminates.

The molecules of plastics and metals do not contain silicon dioxide (silica), which is required for the molecular bond of most of our protective coatings to occur. We have, however, developed some new basic coatings which enhance the look and feel of stainless steel, plastic and wood laminates. You will find these under the Defender Series section.

On what surfaces do EasyClean Diamon-fusion’s® protective coatings work?

EasyClean Diamon-fusion® protects most silica-based surfaces.

The nanotechnology in EasyClean Diamon-fusion’s® protective coatings chemically reacts with most silica-based surfaces such as glass, ceramic tile, granite, porcelain and quartz, as well as other products which contain silica.

Can EasyClean Diamon-fusion’s® coatings be applied to my building or in my home after the glass, granite, tile or porcelain has been installed?

Yes. EasyClean Diamon-fusion’s® coatings can be installed in the factory, shop or on-site.

We pride ourselves in providing the highest level of industrial flexibility in the industry -meaning that we have the right application process for any job - from high-volume factory systems (which deliver the most efficient application process on the planet) - all the way down to single-application systems for custom jobs done by trained professionals. What cleaning products are recommended for EasyClean Diamon-fusion® protective coatings?

The great news is that all EasyClean Diamon-fusion’s® protective coatings can perform forever with proper maintenance and care.

This answer will vary substantially according to the type of application (treated surface type and location/exposure) and the abrasion to which the treated material is exposed. Abrasion means any mechanical (such as windshield wiper on an automobile) or non-mechanical force (such as wind or dust) to which the treated surface is exposed.

For example, a treated vehicle windshield which operates in a snowy environment - (where salt and sand are spread on the roads and then kicked up onto the windshield) - will require a higher level of maintenance and care than the treated exterior of a building in a mild climate. Both, will however, require much less maintenance and care; and retain its brightness much longer than an untreated equivalent.

While your coating will perform as guaranteed in its respective warranty, the as-needed use of EasyClean Diamon-fusion’s® Revitalizer can extend the life of your coating; and the surface it protects; forever.

Please keep in mind that Revitalizer is not necessary in order to satisfy the basic maintenance requirement of any of our warranties, but if you want your coating to last and last, it is a recommended option.

What is the difference between all of EasyClean Diamon-fusion’s® protective coating products?

The difference between these coatings is durability and performance.

DFI’s protective coatings include:

  • Diamon-Fusion® ULTRA™
  • Diamon-Fusion®
  • Clear-Fusion™ Pro
  • Clear-Fusion™V

The difference between these coatings is durability and performance, ranked from top to bottom, with the top being best. While each will last years, depending upon the application (see How long do EasyClean Diamon-fusion’s® protective coatings last?).

The more expensive coatings will perform better over time and will require less maintenance. By perform, we mean protection including water and oil repellence, stain resistance, ease of cleaning, impact and scratch resistance, increased brilliance - and a host of other benefits. As such, each product has a different warranty. If you’d like a more in-depth analysis of the differences, you can view a detailed comparison of these coatings here.

What cleaning products are recommended for EasyClean Diamon-fusion® protective coatings?

You don’t need to buy harsh chemical cleaners to keep your protected surfaces clean.

One of the great benefits of EasyClean Diamon-fusion’s® protective coatings for you, your pocketbook and the environment is that you don’t need to buy harsh chemical cleaners to keep your protected surfaces clean. We recommend using only cool clean water and a nylon puff every two to four weeks. Simply wet the surface and wipe it down with the puff. If you would really like to buy a cleaning product, we recommend a very mild detergent or non-ammonia cleaner.

What if I haven’t done the basic maintenance?

Simply apply a small amount of Restoration Powder to the cloth/puff, apply a bit of water, and, using a light touch, rub the sticky or visibly stained areas.

If necessary, you can use  EasyClean Diamon-fusion® Restoration Powder and a soft cloth or nylon body puff to remove any spotting that won’t come off with water and the soft cloth or puff alone. If the stains still don’t come off, use our special White Scrubber Pad and Restoration Powder.

After removing the stains and assuring good ventilation in the area, apply EasyClean Diamon-fusion® Revitalizer to the previously stained area according to the directions. This will bring the water and oil repellence back to its original performance.

YWarning: Using too much pressure with DFI’s Restoration Powder can damage the EasyClean Diamon-fusion® coating, so please be careful.

You can find all these items in EasyClean Diamon-fusion’s® handy starter Express Care Kit; and larger Consumer Maintenance Kit.

Do I need to use revitalizer to maintain my warranty?

No. If you are doing the basic maintenance, you do not need to use DFI Revitalizer to maintain your warranty. (Also see Care and Maintenance for EasyClean Diamon-fusion® protective coating).

The advantage of using Revitalizer is that you can ensure that your protective coating will last forever--literally. If you over time see the repellence of your coating wane, applying Revitalizer (according to instructions) will return the look and feel back to a ‘like-new’ condition. If you always do this as is needed, even our basic Clear-Fusion™V coating will last forever.

What care and maintenance do EasyClean Diamon-fusion® protective coatings require?

As compared to unprotected surfaces - up to 90% less. And no need to use harsh, expensive, chemical cleaners.

Maintenance and care vary substantially according to the type of application and the abrasion to which the treated surface is exposed. Abrasion is the process of friction which wears down or rubs against the surface.

In the vast majority of applications, if a few spots appear, they can be removed with cool clear water and a soft cloth or nylon body puff. Wet the surface and use the cloth or puff to rub the surface in a circular motion.

You should feel that the areas which initially felt “sticky” will go back to being smooth again. Rinse or spray the surface with more cool, clean water. Wipe dry or let drain and pat dry any remaining droplets. Doing this once per month is all it takes to maintain the warranty (for example,) shower door applications.

If you’ve failed to do this basic maintenance, not all is lost. Refer to “What to do if I haven’t done the basic maintenance”.

If you have questions about a specific application, please fill out the contact form on the right or contact your EasyClean Diamon-fusion® Reseller for specific maintenance recommendations.
